Day 1

Location Details

Okinawa World
  • One of the largest limestone caves in Okinawa

  • Additional attractions: Eisa dance performance, Habu sake brewery viewing, Ryukyu glass blowing

Cave Cafe
  • Enjoy a simple lunch at one of the most unexpected places to find a cafe

Heiwa Memorial Park
  • Heiwa Memorial Park in southern Okinawa honors all who died in the Battle of Okinawa with serene gardens, the Peace Memorial Museum, and the Cornerstone of Peace overlooking the sea.

Toya Port
  • Hours: 11:00–16:00

  • A selection of seafood dishes made fresh from the fisherman's the catch of the day

Nakijin Castle Ruins
  • Hours: Daily 8:00–18:00

  • Entry fee: Adults ¥1,000, Jr./Sr. high ¥500, Elementary & under free.

  • During the Nakijin Cherry Blossom Festival (late Jan–early Feb), the ruins are illuminated at night and special event pricing/hours may apply.

Base Camp
  • Excellent campsite run by friendly Mr. K

  • Foreigner-friendly with English-speaking staff

  • Check-in: By 5:00 PM

  • Free drink each at private bar

  • Price: ¥5,000

Day 3

  • 10:30 AM – Ferry departs to Izena Island

  • 11:30 AM – Arrive in Izena

  • 12:00 PM – Lunch at Reststop Kamiyama

  • 5:00 PM – Arrive back on land

  • 6:00–6:30 PM – Check in at Akechihara Park Camping

Location Details

Izena Ferry
  • Arrive an hour early to purchase your ticket and load your car on the ferry

  • Make sure to have cash, as you cannot pay with card

  • Evertrail will make reservations for the car to go on the ferry beforehand

  • You will need to show your registration paper for the car at check-in

Resthouse Kamiyama
  • Traditional Okinawa soba (like Okinawan ramen)

  • Hours: 11:00–14:00 (lunch), 17:30–22:00 (dinner); closed Mondays.

Fishing / Snorkelling Charter
  • Your captain will meet you at the port to begin your charter

  • You can choose between fishing and snorkelling or a mix of both

  • The captains don't speak English. Evertrail can organize an English speaking guide depending on availability. Guide fee's can be paid directly to the guide on the day.

Dinner With Locals / Local Izakaya
  • If you have a guide with you for your charter, they will stay with you for dinner with the locals and act as a translator for an authentic culture exchange

  • If you decide not to go with an English-speaking guide, dinner and culture exchange will not be available. Choose from the handful of Izakayas on the island to have dinner, or cook up the fish you caught from your charter at the campsite.

Akechihara Park Camping
  • Paid camping site on the east coast of Izena (reservation needed)

  • Izena has a lot of great free camping spots with paid hot showers and free toilets, which can be found in Evertrail's Okinawa Camp Directory

Day 4

  • Takaraya is the earliest shop on the Island to open at 7 am and sells Japanese style breakfast takeaway

  • Choose from the many hikes and view points on the island

  • Sato Kibi (sugar cane) experience can be arranged by Evertrail before hand

Ramen For Lunch

Tonokiya Camp

Yonaha Dake
  • Highest peak in Okinawa (503 m); lush subtropical forest, ferny paths, lots of birdsong

  • Time & difficulty: ~1.5–2.5 hrs round trip; moderate (steady inclines, roots, slippery after rain)

  • The trail is narrow in places, stay on the marked route.

  • Bring 1–2 L water, bug spray, sun/rain protection depending on the season

Oku Shokudo
  • One of the few restaurants in the far north

  • Traditional Okinawan/Japanese food

  • Very fairly priced with huge portions

  • Don't have a big breakfast beforehand

  • Hours: 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Closed: Tuesdays

Cape Hedo Misaki
  • Northernmost point of Okinawa’s main island with dramatic cliff views

  • A lot of rich history about the cape

  • Facilities: free parking, toilets, a few vending machines and a cafe

Day 2


9:00 ~ Load the car onto the ferry at Tomari Port

10:00 ~ Departure for Tokashiki Island (1 hour and 10 mins)

11:45~ Lunch: Octopus Garden

12:30 ~ Search for turtles at Arahen beach

14:00 ~ Hike to Cape Aharen 1st Observation deck.

15:30 ~ Hike to Mt. Teruyama Observation deck.

17:00 ~ Check into Youth Travel Village

19:00 ~ Dinner: BBQ or Gyoza and Rice

20:00 ~ Stargazing

Important Notes:

  • Ferry departs from Tomari port in Naha at 10:00

  • You must board the car 1 hour prior

  • The ferry takes roughly 1 hour

  • Take cash as on the smaller islands, cash is king

  • Please note ferry times are subject to timetable changes every month, so check your month's timetable when planning your trip

Important Notes:

  • Kouri Island has many attractions, including the famously beautiful bridge

  • Stop before crossing the bridge to snap a picture from the beach

  • Some beaches have paid parking and can get busy on weekends

Bize-saki
  • Bise-saki is a beautiful seafront and perfect for sightseeing, walking, and swimming/snorkelling

  • The currents can run fast, so be careful when entering the ocean

  • You can walk from the paid parking to Moco Salt Coffee

Tonokiya Camp
  • Tonokiya is a beautiful spot, beachside

  • The owner, Mr Oyakawa, is a very nice local Okinawan man

  • There are mangroves around the back of the campsite and information on them inside the campground hut

  • Check-in time: ~17:00 (can be flexible)

  • Price: ¥4,000

Day 5


10 am ~ 2 hour waterfall trek in Nago at Ta-taki

12:30 ~ Lunch: Nago Fishing Port restaurant

14:30~ 1 hour Yachimun (Okinawa pottery) class in Nakijin

15:30 - 17:00 ~ Check into Yagaji Beach camp & explore the beach

17:30 ~ Set up camp

18:00 ~ BBQ or leave, dine and come back

20:00 - Last entry for returning to campsite

Important Notes:

  • Ta-taki gets busy as the day goes on and at weekends, which is why we recommend first thing in the morning

  • Nago fishing port restaurant is a local rustic food hall for locals

  • They serve fresh fish from the morning's catch

  • They close at 15:00 and some dishes may sell out before then

Yachimun class
  • Yachimun classes can be searched for on Google

  • Classes typically take 1-2 hours

  • Depending on the establishment, you may have to send your pottery to your country, which will cost an extra fee.

  • Our recommendation is LaboratorioDal mare in Yagaji Island, which accepts reservations online.

  • They use simple English, Google Translate, and hand gestures to communicate with non-Japanese speakers.

Yagaji Beach
  • Yagaji Beach Camp is a very beautiful campsite on Yagaji Island

  • You are required to check in before 17:00, but can leave and return by 20:00.

  • Yagaji Beach Camp rents kayaks and canoes for an additional cost

  • Price: ¥5,000
