Okinawa Camping Car Diaries: Aha’s Enchanted Starry Retreat
Introduction: Discovery
Welcome to the Camping Car Diaries! Today, I'm excited to share my camping experience at a hidden gem in Kunigami's Aha region. I stumbled upon this hidden gem after a day of driving, racing against the setting sun to find a spot for the night. After checking a few nooks and crannies, I stumbled upon this little piece of paradise.
Getting There: The Path Less Traveled
The spot is easily accessed through a narrow, slightly bumpy path. As you approach the ocean, veer right to the edge of the road, leading to an open space where fellow campers often gather, especially on weekends. Situated at the mouth of the Aha River where it meets the sea, creating a magical atmosphere. During my visit, people were fishing off the jacks, indicating that it must be a good fishing spot!
Underwater Hints: Coral Cove Exploration
Typically, when camping by the ocean, I would seize the opportunity to snorkel and explore the surrounding waters. However, on this occasion, the ocean's slight swell deterred me. Yet, up the cove, signs of coral suggest it could offer a cool underwater experience!
Starry Night: A Wonderful Sight
At night, the stars lit up the sky, treating me to an incredible show with lots of shooting stars. I even managed to capture one of my all-time favorite time-lapses of the night sky.
Local Charm: Entrance-Free Haven
This place has a friendly local feel, and the best part is there are no entrance or camping fees. Keep in mind that there are no toilets or showers around.
Bonus Discovery: The Abnormal Roots
About 5 minutes away there is a little park you can stroll through where I seen trees with the most amazingly abnormal roots! This is also something worthy of checking out!
Responsible Exploration: A Call for Respect
If you decide to venture to this picturesque camp spot, I urge you to embrace the spirit of respect. Be mindful of fellow campers and visitors, avoid large groups, and, most importantly, clean up after yourself. Let's keep this beautiful spot enjoyable for everyone to appreciate responsibly.
