7-day itinerary around mainland Okinawa & Tokashiki Island

Day 1


10:30 am ~ Pick up your Evertrail Camping Car from Naha

11:30 ~ Park at Heiwa Dori for Market strolls

12:30~ Lunch: Makishi Public Market

14:00 ~ Okinawa World

16:00 ~ Shopping for Dinner

17:00 ~ Check in to Neos Park

19:00 ~ Dinner: BBQ

Important Notes:

  • Heiwa Dori is a busy market arcade street in Naha

  • There are many souvenier shops and places to eat

  • Open & close times: Generally 10:00 - 12:00

Heiwa Dori
Makishi Public Market
  • Choose from the fresh selection of seafood downstairs and have it filleted and cooked the way you like.

Okinawa World
  • Okinawa World is one of the largest limestone caves in Okinawa

  • There are many other attractions in the compound such as Eisa dance performance, viewing at Habu sake brewery, Ryukyu glass blowing etc

Neos Park
  • Neos Park is a beach campsite run on the lower part of the island

  • The campsite is clean with good amenities

  • Check-in time: ~17:00

  • Price: ¥4,400

Day 2


9:00 ~ Load the car onto the ferry at Tomari Port

10:00 ~ Departure for Tokashiki Island (1 hour and 10 mins)

11:45~ Lunch: Octopus Garden

12:30 ~ Search for turtles at Arahen beach

14:00 ~ Hike to Cape Aharen 1st Observation deck.

15:30 ~ Hike to Mt. Teruyama Observation deck.

17:00 ~ Check into Youth Travel Village

19:00 ~ Dinner: BBQ or Gyoza and Rice

20:00 ~ Stargazing

Important Notes:

  • Ferry departs from Tomari port in Naha at 10:00

  • You must board the car 1 hour prior

  • The ferry takes roughly 1 hour

  • Take cash as on the smaller islands, cash is king

  • Please note ferry times are subject to timetable changes every month, so check your month's timetable when planning your trip

  • Evertrail support team books all camp sites and ferries on your behalf, so you don't need to worry about the booking process!

  • Nice selection of Okinawan food and nice seating area on the roof

Tokashiki Activities
  • There is alot of activities is Tokashiki to do inc some paid snorkel tours and boat tours

  • Around Arahen beach there are some vendors that you can browse tours with

  • Take advantage of having the car with you and visit as many beaches and look outs as possible!

Youth Travel Village
  • The Youth Travel Village is a nice campsite with hot showers and toilets for the campers

  • Take most of your food and consumables from the main island as supplies can be low on the smaller islands

  • Price: ¥1,000

Day 3


10:00 ~ Aran Observation deck.

11:30 ~ Drive around north of island

12:30 ~ Lunch: Chingushi soba

13:45 ~ Visit Tokashiku Beach

14:30 ~ Load car on ferry

15:30 ~ Depart for Okinawa Mainland

16:40 ~ Arive at Okinawa mainland

18:00 - 18:30 ~ Check in at Base Camp (Motobu)

19:00 ~ Have dinner out or cook

20:00 ~ Enjoy a free drink each at Base Camp private bar

Important Notes:

  • Enjoy your morning at Tokashiki at your own pace

  • Take a look at the island, stopping at the beautiful viewpoints

  • Try a SUP and snorkel lesson at Acoustic Life (book the day before at Tokashiku Beach)

  • Chingushi Soba serves traditional Okinawa Soba (like Okinawa ramen)

Base Camp
Return Ferry
  • We recommend arriving at the ferry 1 hour prior to loading the car

  • Ferry timetables are subject to changes depending on the month

  • Base camp is an excellent campsite run by a very friendly man called Mr K

  • The campsite is foreigner-friendly with English-speaking staff

  • Check-in time: ~17:00

  • Enjoy a free drink each at base camp private bar

  • Price: ¥5000

Day 4


10:00 ~ Kouri Island tour

12:30 ~ Lunch: Kouri Island Station

14:30 ~ Bisezaki sightseeing/swim

15:45 ~ Okinawa salt drink @ Moco Salt Coffee

17:00 ~ Check into Tonokiya camping ground

17:30 ~ Set up camp

18:00 ~ Cook elevated instant ramen or another dish of


your choosing

Important Notes:

  • Kouri Island has many attractions, including the famously beautiful bridge

  • Stop before crossing the bridge to snap a picture from the beach

  • Some beaches have paid parking and can get busy on weekends

Kouri Island Station
  • There are many places to eat at the Kouri station

  • It will read 古宇利島の駅 ソラハシ on Google Maps

Bize-saki
  • Bise-saki is a beautiful seafront and perfect for sightseeing, walking, and swimming/snorkelling

  • The currents can run fast, so be careful when entering the ocean

  • You can walk from the paid parking to Moco Salt Coffee

Tonokiya Camp
  • Tonokiya is a beautiful spot, beachside

  • The owner, Mr Oyakawa, is a very nice local Okinawan man

  • There are mangroves around the back of the campsite and information on them inside the campground hut

  • Check-in time: ~17:00 (can be flexible)

  • Price: ¥4,000

Day 5


10 am ~ 2 hour waterfall trek in Nago at Ta-taki

12:30 ~ Lunch: Nago Fishing Port restaurant

14:30~ 1 hour Yachimun (Okinawa pottery) class in Nakijin

15:30 - 17:00 ~ Check into Yagaji Beach camp & explore the


beach

17:30 ~ Set up camp

18:00 ~ BBQ or leave, dine and come back

20:00 - Last entry for returning to campsite

Important Notes:

  • Ta-taki gets busy as the day goes on and at weekends, which is why we recommend first thing in the morning

  • Opening and closing times: 8:00 – 17:30

  • Admission fee: ¥500

Nago Fishing Port Restaurant
  • Nago fishing port restaurant is a local rustic food hall for locals

  • They serve fresh fish from the morning's catch

  • They close at 15:00 and some dishes may sell out before then

Yachimun class
  • Yachimun classes can be searched for on Google

  • Classes typically take 1-2 hours

  • Depending on the establishment, you may have to send your pottery to your country, which will cost an extra fee.

  • Our recommendation is LaboratorioDal mare in Yagaji Island, which accepts reservations online.

  • They use simple English, Google Translate, and hand gestures to communicate with non-Japanese speakers.

Yagaji Beach
  • Yagaji Beach Camp is a very beautiful campsite on Yagaji Island

  • You are required to check in before 17:00, but can leave and return by 20:00.

  • Yagaji Beach Camp rents kayaks and canoes for an additional cost

  • Price: ¥5,000

Day 6


10:00 ~ Rent Kayaks from Yagaji beach and Kayak around

14:00~ Nakijin Castle ruins

15:30 ~ Chura umi aquirium

17:30 ~ Check in to Okuma Mountains

18:00 ~ BBQ or order authentic Okinawa meal

19:00 ~ Sunset from the mountain

20:00 ~ Stargazing

Important Notes:

  • Kayaking will only be available for renting during high tide, so you can shuffle the day's activities to suit

  • Kayaking should only be done in good ocean conditions

  • Yagaji also rents small wooden boats that will seat up to 3 people on the back of the island for calmer conditions (weather dependent)

  • Yagaji's mangrove forest can be accessed from the boats

10:00 ~ Daiseki Rinzan sightseeing/hike

11:30 ~ Cape Hedo

12:30 ~ Lunch: Yanbaru Oku Shokudo

14:30 ~ Cruise down east coast, stopping at some towns &


beaches

15:30 ~ Pineapple juice refreshments: Sunrise Higashi

17:30 ~ Fuel up

~18:00 -Return the camping car to Evertrail and say our


goodbyes!

  • Daiseki Rinzan is a hiking area in the north of Okinawa

  • There are many things to see, including one of the biggest Gajumaru tree's in Okinawa

  • One of the few restaurants in the far north

  • Traditional Okinawa/Japanese food

  • Very fairly priced, huge portions

  • Don't have a big breakfast before going!

  • Open & close times: 11:30 - 15:00

  • Closed on Tuesdays

East Coast Cruise
  • Adan beach: Beautiful beach, great snorkeling, showers and toilets, paid parking

  • Yanbaru Kuina Ecological Exhibition: Endangered Yanbaru Kuina bird exhibition

  • Nagahama beach: Free parking, toilets and showers, beautiful beach walk

  • Sunrise Higashi: Little local supermarket, fresh pineapple frozen drink, locally grown

Evertrail Return
  • Evertrail returns are by 18:00 on your return day

  • We will check the car over together and bid farewell!
